Hello, my name is Sophie. I have always loved art, but my passion for spinning and fluff started when I visited the Perth Festival of Yarn in September, 2018 and first discovered the wonders of wool. I bought a spindle and some wool there, and I learnt how to spin. I don't know how I left with less than 500 grams of wool!
A few months later, I learnt to spin on a wheel with Katie from Sealy MacWheely. I absolutely loved it. A few months later I got a spinning wheel! I practised spinning and had loads of fun with it. Before I knew it September had come again! I went back to the Perth Festival of Yarn for more supplies! I got a very beautiful niddy noddy that still had the natural bark on the wood.
My journey in weaving started when I attended a weaving workshop in 2019, run by the weaver Mairi Breslin from Coorie Creative. At the end of the workshop I agreed to spin some wool for Mairi and in exchange she taught me more about weaving. Eventually I got my own rigid heddle loom so I could continue learning at home. It wasn't long before I was weaving with my own hand spun yarn.
At the start of this year I got some hand carders, which opened up additional opportunities. I started by making some very mini batts, and then progressed to make rolags. I also obtained materials to make a blending board, which meant I could make bigger rolags. It didn't take long for me to realise that my blending board could also be used to make batts!
After compliments and positive feedback, I am now trying to launch a small business to make my work available to others. If you are interested in buying something on my shop or discussing a custom order, contact me through Instagram!
